- Essential Question
- How can we deliver quality digital education to students in low-connectivity communities without relying on internet infrastructure?
- Project Description
-
ConnectED Box addresses the challenge of digital inequality in low-connectivity and underserved schools. Many students own smartphones or have access to computers, yet cannot access online educational resources due to expensive data costs, unreliable networks, and unstable electricity. This limits academic performance and widens the gap between urban and rural learners.
Our solution is a portable, solar-powered offline learning server that creates a local Wi-Fi network within a school. Students connect to ConnectED Box using their phones or laptops and access a fully loaded educational portal without internet access. The device contains offline educational resources such as curriculum-aligned notes, past examination questions, science simulations, interactive quizzes, and teacher-uploaded materials.
Unlike traditional internet-based platforms, ConnectED Box does not require subscriptions, data plans, or broadband infrastructure. It provides immediate, affordable digital access in classrooms where connectivity is limited or nonexistent.
Through this project, we designed a prototype system, curated curriculum-aligned content, and structured a model for deployment in low-income schools. Our initiative supports Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 9 (Innovation and Infrastructure), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by bridging the digital access gap and ensuring that every student can learn, regardless of their internet access.
