- Essential Question
- How can we transform youth into "Digital Ambassadors" using a high-efficiency, low- resource model to bridge the digital divide?
- Project Description
-
The Girls & Women in Tech Accelerator (GWTA), led by Future Up Nations (FUN) in Ilemela, Mwanza, addresses the persistent digital divide and gender gap in technology access. Cultural barriers often prevent girls from using public internet cafes, while high costs and equipment scarcity limit student learning. Under the guidance of mentor Erasto Mussa, the project transforms youth into "Digital Ambassadors" using a high-efficiency, low-resource model.
To tackle these challenges, the team implemented a Rotational Learning Model within a "Three-Station" Lab:
Station A (Desktop): Hardware maintenance and digital entrepreneurship.
Station B (Laptop): Research, Scratch coding, and community outreach.
Station C (iPad): Digital arts and international language apps..A pilot cohort of six girls is currently being trained to mentor 300 future beneficiaries in AI, cloud storage, and English. By fostering digital independence, GWTA advances SDGs 4, 5, and 10, creating a sustainable beacon of innovation in Tanzania.
