What historical events from the city, can the oldest people transmit to the new generations
Project Description

Voices of the Past, Voices of the Present: An Oral History Project, is as a replication, adapted to the context, of a project that began in 2021 called: Retrieving the Tales of the Emberá Chamí Community of Armenia, Quindío, Colombia. In this earlier project, the young people collected stories from the Emberá Chamí Indigenous Community, highlighting the importance of the knowledge of the community's grandparents and elders, who shared their stories. These stories and experiences from the adults were published on an online blog. In this way, the young people began to reconnect with their community and their ancestral knowledge.

In 2023, the process of doing something similar began at the Rufino José Cuervo Centro educational institution in Armenia. Students started to collect stories about the history of the El Bosque neighborhood and surrounding areas through the grandparents of the young people and older neighbors of the area. However, it remained in its early stages.

In 2026, the project will continue collecting historical tales from this area that marked an important moment of the city. In this way, the purpose of the previously proposed research is maintained, giving importance to the knowledge, tales, and stories told by the elders.
