Big Idea
Empowering community to access oral-screening
Essential Question
How can AI and computer vision based screening tool help early oral cancer detection in communities with limited medical infrastructure?
Project Description

Oral cancer remains a significant health concern in rural India, resulting in high mortality rates due to delayed diagnosis. In our community, routine oral screening is not available, and people seek medical help only when symptoms become severe, so survival rates are low. High tobacco consumption, low awareness, poor oral hygiene, and limited medical resources also add to the severity of the problem. To find a solution, students have developed an AI-powered oral cancer screening model to address these challenges."Voices Against Oral Cancer", an AI-based oral cancer screening model, detects early indicators of the disease using machine learning and image analysis techniques to bridge healthcare gaps in rural communities by providing affordable, accessible, early screening of oral cavities. We want to show how artificial intelligence can detect early signs of oral cancer by combining technology with education and community support. This tool uses AI image recognition and is trained on thousands of labeled images, both cancerous and non-cancerous. It can detect subtle changes in color, shape, and texture, enabling quick, easy oral screening.
